E-Scooters
E-Scooters Warning notice
Please be aware you can legally buy E-Scooters in the UK but however it is currently against the law to ride an e-scooter on a public road, public area, cycle lane or pavement. You are allowed to ride an e-scooter on private land where the public doesn't have access to and if you want to ride the e-scooter there you must have the landlords permission. Rental e-scooters part of the government-approved schemes are legal in designated areas. Reasons for this are e-scooters are legally classed as a motor vehicle and therefore are required to have Tax, Insurace, MOT and a valid driving licence. You should also have features such as signal lights and visable rear lights. As most e-scooters do not have these features they can not be legally used on UK roads. Should you be stopped by the police, they may seize the scooter which you won't be able to get back and in some cases you will be prosecuted to which you will recieve a fine and points on your licence. Over the past few weeks we have spoken to a lot of adults/children in Kingsholm on e-scooters who seem to be unaware of these rules.
If you witness any further incidents of antisocial behaviour involving e-scooters please report it online here: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/ro/report/asb/af/antisocial-behaviour/ Always call 999 in an emergency. | ||
